WLAO members participate
on many different committees within the law community. If you, as a WLAO
member, participate in committee work which you think would be of interest
to other members, please let us know and we'll post information on this
page.
EAG - (Equity Advisory
Group)
One of the several
committees and organizations of which the Women's Law Association is a
member is the Equity Advisory Group of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
EAG operates as an advisory group to the Equity and Aboriginal Issues
Committee of the Law Society. EAG assists in the development of policy
options for the promotion of equity and diversity in the legal profession
by identifying and advising the Equity and Aboriginal Issues Committee
on issues relating to equity both within the legal profession and relating
to those seeking access to the profession. EAG has been involved in several
issues over the past few months, including bencher remuneration and tuition
fee increases.

Chief Justice of
Ontario's Advisory Committee on Professionalism
The mission
of the Chief Justice of Ontario's (CJO) Advisory Committee on Professionalism
is to maintain those aspects of the law that make it a learned and proud
profession. The Committee's main goals are to promote professionalism,
civility, and a spirit of community and collegiality in the legal
profession. The
Committee has developed a project for a seven-year semi-annual series
of colloquia on the legal profession. The colloquia will study legal culture,
legal history, legal ethics, and the role and responsibilities of law
and lawyers in Canadian society. The goal of the joint venture is to produce
over a period of years a collection of high-quality papers about legal
professionalism in its broadest sense. The papers presented at the colloquia
will cover all aspects of professionalism, including the ethical, the
practical, the social, the political, the cultural, and the historical
aspects of what it means to be a lawyer and about the role of law in
society. The
first in the series of colloquia will take place on October 20th, 2003
at the University of Western Ontario. Details about the Agenda are available
on our events page.
